Background:

I have been a nurse since 1988. I worked at the University of Michigan and Beaumont Hospitals in the Intensive Care Units. Following my Masters degree, I also worked as a Clinical Nurse Specialist setting up and managing the Gastrointestinal Multidisciplinary Cancer Clinic at U of M’s Comprehensive Cancer Center. I started working in nursing education and research following my PhD.   I am also the editor of MedSurg Matters!, the official, peer-reviewed newsletter for the Academy of Medical Surgical Nurses.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught at Oakland University and most recently at the University of Detroit Mercy. I teach graduate Clinical Nurse Specialist students, undergraduate nursing students in Medical Surgical courses and a collaborative multidisciplinary course with engineering students building assistive technologies for people living with physical disabilities.
