Scholars celebrate research experience

More than 200 scholars, family, faculty and administrators attended Research Day at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History featuring keynote speaker, David Asai, senior director in science education at the Howard Hughes Institute (HHMI) on September 13.

Asai’s address titled, “Chunking,” demonstrated how an expert could recognize patterns, break down complex information into chunks, design experiences and controls, troubleshoot and provide constructive criticism.

“For a chemical reaction to take place, there must be a catalyst,” said Asai. “Your catalyst is your mentor. They are transforming you into a scientist.”

Asai provided this reaction how a student is transformed into a scientist.
