Title of Research Project:
Preparedness of Nurse Educators to Teach Domestic Violence Content to Pre-Licensure Baccalaureate Student
Studies have identified numerous barriers of registered nurses (RNs) to screen women for domestic violence (DV) that include: providers’ perceived lack of time, lack of knowledge, education, or training, and inadequate resources for follow-up, although when these barriers develop is poorly understood. Improving screening behaviors of RNs for DV is complicated by the highly sensitive and personal nature of listening to and discussing the experiences of violence patients may disclose. This proposal seeks to understand if the preparedness of nurse educators to teach DV content to pre-licensure nursing students may contribute to the barrier known as lack of education/training.
