Summer enrichment program focus of conference presentation

Representatives from ReBUILDetroit share their experiences of the summer enrichment program at the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) conference in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on March 7.

Student core director, Dr. Steven Chang, and Ms. Pamela Rhodes Todd both from University of Detroit Mercy presented “ReBUILDetroit: Summer Enrichment for Underrepresented Students.”

Many institutions use summer bridge programs to prepare students for a successful transition from high school to college or university.

“The bridge programs are usually targeted to a specific major or population such as science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” says Chang. “What makes the ReBUILDetroit program unique is the inclusion of social sciences and biomedical research are part of the curriculum.”

The session was part of a programming block on promoting student success on college campuses.

ACPA is the leading comprehensive student affairs association that advances student affairs and engages students for a lifetime of learning and discovery.
