ReBUILDetroit Scholars from Marygrove College, University of Detroit Mercy, Wayne County Community College District and Wayne State University gathered for the first of four cross institutional forums as part of the Summer Enrichment Program held at Wayne State University this afternoon.
Speakers from Wayne State University’s Medical School invited students to see what one of the largest medical schools in the country has to offer and take advantage of the support system around you.
Dr. Dennis Parker from the Eugene Applebaum School of Pharmacy & Health Sciences was excited about his research while calling for a diversification in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). He says, “STEM workforce no more diverse than 14 years ago. Research shows that our nation’s health care is better with a diverse workforce in the medical field.”
Dr. Parker encouraged the scholars to take advantage of the support system that was created for you.
Scholars also created boards on Pinterest to begin to network with their colleagues at all four institutions.
The Pinterest boards are:
- Marygrove College: Board 1
- University of Detroit Mercy: Board 1, Board 2, Board 3
- Wayne Count Community College District: Board 1, Board 2
- Wayne State University: Board 1
- Example for the group: Board 1
