“Faculty-student relationships are the number one indicator of student success,” says Dr. Katherine Rowell, professor of Sociology at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio.
More than 25 faculty and staff from Detroit Mercy, Marygrove College and Wayne State University participate in an interactive professional development workshop facilitated by Rowell at Detroit Mercy on October 7.
“In general, the more interaction students have with their teachers, the more likely they are to learn effectively and persist toward achievement of their education goals,” says Rowell. “Personal interaction with faculty members strengthens students’ connections to the college and helps them focus on their academic progress.”
ReBUILDetroit provides several professional development sessions to faculty of consortium partners during the academic year.
The topic for the next workshop is course based undergraduate research, Bringing (Genomics) Research into the Undergraduate Curriculum, on November 3. To register for the session, please visit the registration form.
