Lab Coat ceremony kicks off summer research

ReBUILDetroit scholars in cohort 2016 received their lab coats from the faculty-mentors and peer-to-peer mentors during a ceremony at Marygrove on May 19.

The annual ReBUILDetroit Lab Coat Ceremony capped a week of orientation as scholars begin their summer research experience at labs across Detroit on Monday, May 22.

The ceremony celebrates a successful first-year experience and signifies a continuing research commitment to the scholars.

A lab coat is essential for scholars as they begin their summer research experience.  It symbolizes the commitment of excellence between the institution, mentor and scholar to each other and the ReBUILDetroit program.

Dr. Terri Laws, Assistant Professor, Health and Human Services; Assistant Professor of African and African American Studies at University of Michigan Dearborn and former ReBUILDetroit Health Disparities faculty member, presented the keynote address to the scholars.
