Scholars enrolled in the ReBUILDetroit Summer Enrichment Program at Wayne County Community College District (WCCCD) rave about the quality instructors.
“The lab instructors are perfect,” says Samantha Kirk, a sophomore studying Pharmacology. “In fact, I wish the labs were four hours rather than two hours. It seems like we are just digging into a topic and the class is over.”
Scholars in the WCCCD program aspire to enter the nursing, dentistry, pharmacology and medical fields. These career paths align with ReBUILDetroit’s goal of establishing Detroit as a biomedical research center.
Scholars like Kirk have a particular career path in mind. They know how to accomplish it. More importantly, they know their education does not end with their degree from WCCCD. Further education at partner ReBUILDetroit institutions is the goal for scholars.
Selecting courses that fulfill both program and degree requirements at a partner institution are critical to a faster entry into the workforce. Many of the WCCCD scholars are older or have more work experience than their counterparts at consortium institutions. Scholars are excited about their future through ReBUILDetroit.
As for the ReBUILDetroit Summer Enrichment Program and weekend experience, Kirk says, “it was more exciting than I imagined.
