The ReBUILDetroit program provides opportunities for scholars to attend and present their research at regional and national conferences. For Tierra Modock, she gained confidence in her presentation skills and established a network of mentors at the Louis Stokes Midwest Center of Excellence (LSMCE) conference earlier this month.
“Presenting has become easier because I now know what to expect at conferences,” said Modock. “I learned to summarize my research and make it understandable for those who may not be familiar with my research topic.”
In addition to presenting, Modock, a senior at University of Detroit Mercy, met with mentors that may play an important role in her future.
“I am very thankful to be in the ReBUILDetroit program. It helped me focus on my future career,” said Modock. “It provides me with mentors and skills that make me stand out when I apply for graduate schools.”
The conference, “Take Action: Reaching Deeper into the Nation’s Diverse Pool of STEM Talent,” took place in Indianapolis, IN on October 6 to 8.
