Title of Research Project:

Environmental remediation by biosorbent materials

Research Description:

Biosorption is an emerging remediation process that uses biological materials to remove toxic contaminants, such as heavy toxic metals and pesticides, using physio-chemical mechanisms. The proposed project would measure uptake of heavy metals by agricultural waste products such as fruit peels. Important parameters to be tested include metal concentration, adsorbent dose, surface area, contact time, and pH. The removal percentages of metal ions from aqueous samples will be measured by flame atomic absorption spectrometry.
