Three ReBUILDetroit scholars from the University of Detroit Mercy (UDM) share their research experience with ReBUILDetroit scholars at Marygrove College.

Elizabeth Moak, Danielle Maxwell and Royce Swasey present their work on discovering and characterizing a novel bacteriophage from local soil to Dr. Abigail Fusaro’s Biology Research Coordination Network (RCN) course at Marygrove College.
The invited guest speakers are enrolled in the UDM’s Biology RCN course.
They are working collaboratively on the annotation of two bacteriophage genomes from last semester, which they named Kady and Stagni.
“Presenting research findings to others is a vital skill for any researcher,” says Dr. Jacob Kagey, biology professor at UDM. “They had the chance to share their project, answer questions about the impact of their research and discuss the direction of the project.”
This is one of the first exchanges of student researchers between the ReBUILDetroit consortium partners.
“We hope to continue having BUILD students visit RCN courses in the consortium and present their data throughout the semester,” says Kagey.
