Janice Gilliland

On July 1, 2017, Janice Gilliland was appointed Dean of the School of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) at Henry Ford College.

In her short tenure as Dean, Janice has secured grant partnerships with University of Michigan Ann Arbor, Wayne State University, University of Detroit – Mercy, Lawrence Technological University, and Eastern Michigan University.

These grants focus on developing a diverse and inclusive atmosphere in the school of STEM and providing students with supportive pathways to completion of bachelor’s and graduate level studies. Janice brings nearly 25 years of K-12 and college-level teaching experience, as well as college administrative experience, to her current role.

Janice is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Michigan – Flint in Educational Leadership. She earned an EdS in Educational Leadership from Liberty University in 2017. She holds a Master of Science in Mathematics from Wayne State University and both a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education from the University of Western Ontario.

She is a graduate of the Chair Academy for Leadership. Janice has presented innovations in higher education at many regional and national conferences, including:

  • Michigan Student Success Summit
  • National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD)
  • Two-Year First Year (TYFY) conference with Shannon Peterson
  • Gateways to Completion (G2C) with Shanna Simpson-Singleton
  • Great Lakes Region Student Success Summit (GLRSSC) in Detroit

Janice currently serves as the President of the Michigan Liberal Arts Deans (MLAD) and is a member of the Dearborn Rotary Foundation Board. She has taught all levels of mathematics with emphasis on math courses designed for pre-service teachers.
